Teaching and assessment

Teaching

Teaching will be delivered in an online learning format during years one and two of your DBA programme. You will engage in online teaching and learning, and selfdirected study.

There will be an emphasis on active learning, using participatory approaches, such as interactive workshops, seminars, group work, guest-speaker events, one-to-one supervision (in the thesis stage), and web conferences.

The DBA has been designed to enhance your professional development and enable you to further progress as ‘reflective practitioners’ within your setting.

Assessment

Each of the 8 taught modules includes subject-specific components to evaluate your knowledge and understanding of the module topics. This is achieved through a range of methods and appropriate techniques, including:

-written coursework
-blog entries and wikis
-individual presentations
-self-review

You are also expected to develop core programme skills throughout your studies and some of these, including digital literacy, critical and creative thinking, communication skills, and collaboration skills. These skills are tested across all modules.

The professional doctorate thesis is the culmination of the DBA programme in years three to six of the programme. It tests your intellectual skills, creativity, problemsolving, and ability to manage a complex and challenging piece of work.

Career Outcomes

The DBA has been developed to address the needs of industry and employers – producing graduates with industry experience, problem-solving and data analysis skills, and the ability to undertake applied research. DBA holders will have a wide range of career opportunities in industries internationally. This may include roles in upper management, management consultant, or academia. Employers recognise the advanced degree and acknowledge higher salary requirements as DBA holders bring increased value to an organisation.
